Our History

In 1963, two friends, Len Postema and Paul Smith, founded Michigan Ornamental Iron and Fabricating Company (MOI) amid the housing boom of the 1960s. Early challenges pushed them to focus on quality and reliability — values that defined the company’s future. A pivotal hire came in 1965, when Len brought on a 14-year-old named Steve Menn to sweep the floors and learn the trade from the ground up.

By expanding into custom fabrication for high-end homes and commercial buildings, MOI earned a reputation for craftsmanship and dependable delivery. In 1987, that young floor-sweeper took ownership, guiding MOI to become the largest railing manufacturer for commercial housing in the region. Today, under the leadership of Jeff Menn (Steve’s son), MOI continues its 60-year tradition of artistry, honesty and quality.
